A comprehensive booklet of schedules and abstracts has been published for the national Local Government Research Forum in Adelaide 6-7 June hosted by ACELG and the Local Government Association of South Australia.

This collation will be a useful reference for the local government sector as a whole, as it details each of the presentations and provides preliminary information on the papers to appear in the forum`s poceedings volume.

The calibre and diversity of presenters and topics is impressive. Each presentation responds to a current local government issue such as local government finance and revenue, political and executive leadership, future workforce, local government as community facilitator among others, so there will be something of interest for everyone.

ACELG Director, Associate Professor Roberta Ryan said:

"I am really looking forward to this national Forum – it’s an important opportunity to engage local government practitioners and researchers in thinking about how to build research capacity in the local government sector and to encourage practitioner research that relates to pressing policy issues.

"The Forum comes around once every two years, so I encourage local government staff to attend and contribute to discussions on some critical themes – especially in view of national and jurisdictional sector deliberations currently underway."

In addition to presentations, the Forum offers professional development opportunities around research development, publishing and impact measurement, plus active deliberation and opportunities for making links with senior policy makers – not to mention a lively debate on local government reform to conclude proceedings.
