6th National LG Workforce Development Forum
25 April 2013
, Australian National University, Canberra

On 18-19 April 2013, ACELG convened the 6th National Local Government Workforce Development Forum at the Australian National University in Canberra. The Forum brought together representatives from federal government departments and agencies, industry peak bodies and skills councils, and state and territory government departments and local government associations.

The focus of the Forum was the implementation of the National Local Government Workforce Strategy 2013-2020, which will be officially launched by the federal Minister for Local Government, the Hon. Anthony Albanese in coming weeks.

Though not yet formally released, the intent of the Forum was to explore the Strategy and to commence the development of state and territory based implementation plans. These will be progressed in the months to come.

The Forum Objectives were:

  • To facilitate the implementation of the Strategy
  • To develop state and territory based implementation plans focussing on local needs, within a national monitoring framework
  • To discuss the findings of the Australian Local Government Workforce and Employment Census, and how they might impact implementation
  • To review and evaluate Australian Government skills and workforce development initiatives and funding opportunities, and how they will support Strategy implementation.
