ACELG practitioner-focused local government degrees

Based within UTS, ACELG offers the only local government degrees in Australia aimed at unlocking the career potential of sector professionals and providing the skills to rise to leadership roles.

Degrees offered are:

  • Master of Local Government
  • Graduate Diploma of Local Government Management
  • Graduate Certificate in Local Government Leadership 
  • Graduate Certificate in Development Assessment.
     

Recent graduates of the Masters program were Alison Ballind (Councillor, Griffith City Council) and Rebecca Ryan (General Manager, Blayney Shire Council). Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Local Government Management were Catherine Zammit (Manager, Children's Services, Holroyd City Council), Paul Sullivan (Area Coordinator, City of Sydney), Patricia Kirkland (Projects Coordinator, Byron Shire Council), and Jessica Quilty (Corporate Administration Officer, North Sydney Council).

"The course provided knowledge on how to research and implement alternative processes and ideas," said Alison Ballind. "The supervisors were very encouraging and only too happy to provide advice and direction." Rebecca Ryan said the ACELG-UTS Masters degree has had a positive impact on her career: "After completing my Masters, I applied for and was successful in being appointed the new General Manager of Blayney Shire Council."

ACELG is the nation's premier, university-based teaching, research and consultancy centre dedicated to the advancement and sustainability of local government. All programs are fully accredited by UTS and reflect the University's unique approach to practitioner-focused learning.
