Applications open for the 2014 Excellence in Local Government Leadership Program
27 November 2013

Applications are now open for the 2014 offering of the Excellence in Local Government Leadership Program; a five-day intensive course for senior local government leaders. The program is a joint initiative between the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government (ACELG) and the Australia New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG), and will be held from the 21st to the 25th of July 2014 in Canberra.

The Excellence in Local Government Leadership Program (ELGLP) will challenge current leaders to set the agenda for local government reform in the 21st century. An emphasis is placed on strategic leadership; collaborative governance with other governments, citizens and stakeholders; and innovative service delivery.

ELGLP tackles many of the fundamental questions confronting senior local government leaders who are seeking to build a culture of problem solving at a local level. The program also considers the role local government can play in:

  • harnessing the resources of the community to collectively determine public value and to source and diffuse innovation
  • being a collaborator of first resort in local and regional policy and delivery networks
  • being a learning organisation and knowledge broker
  • being an employer of choice.

Crucially, this program involves understanding local government as an engine room of economic growth and public value creation. The aim is to provide leaders with a dynamic forum for building networks and a shared commitment to delivering world-class local governance.

To support participation in this program by a wide range of local government leaders, a generous number of scholarships (full and part) are available to support meritorious applicants, particularly women, rural/remote applicants, and applicants from organisations with limited resources.
